Google My Business Verification Process

In the past decade, Google has been the ranked the top search engine used worldwide, whether you are searching for information, businesses, or services. Listing your business on Google is free and with a few easy steps, this may be accomplished entirely yourself. As a nationwide locksmith franchise, we will focus on how to add your business on Google and a few tips along the way.

Verifying your business with Google is crucial in having you appear to customers on Google Search and Maps, and the process is usually accomplished by postcard. Once verified, you will have the capability in managing your business information on Google Maps, Search, and other properties while ensuring that only you, the business owner or manager, have access to it.

Before you go through the verification process, you must create or claim a Google My Business listing.

Search for your business using its name and address and click Next. If you do not see your business listed on the menu, click "No, these are not my businesses" or "I've correctly entered the business". You will then be prompted to enter details of your business, including an accurate and complete address along with a phone number to reach your business directly.

Most businesses require verification through postcard. You enter your business information into Google My Business and you should expect a postcard with a verification usually within 20 days. Make sure you fill out your business address correctly including state, zip code, and suite number (if applicable).

While waiting for your verification code, it is important you do not edit your business name, address, category, or ask to resend a new verification code. Performing any one these actions will delay the process and arrival of the verification code for your business.

Once you have received your verification code, sign into your Google My Business account, click on Manage Locations, then Verify Now. Enter the 5-digit verification  code you received in the mail and click Submit. Your business information will now be eligible to appear live on Google Maps, Search, and other Google services.

If after two weeks you have not received your verification code, you should contact Google.

*Note: Some businesses are eligible for phone verification. Check Google's terms and conditions to see if this applies to your business.
